Introduction
Trade Name: Finale XL, Cheetah Pro | Common Name: glufosinate | Formulations: 2.34 L |
Uses
Nonselective control of a broad spectrum of emerged broadleaf weeds and seedling grasses. Finale may be used for general postemergence weed control, as well as trimming and edging in landscape areas including recreational and public areas such as airports and parks. Also used as a directed spray for weed control in field grown nursery stock, around container-grown nursery stock and in farmstead noncrop areas. Particularly useful for the control of glyphosate-tolerant or resistant broadleaf weeds.
Amount of Active Ingredient | Amount by Formulation
2.34 L | ||
Per Acre | 0.75 to 1.5 lb | 42 to 84 fl oz |
Per 1,000 sq ft | 1 to 2 fl oz
Spot Treatment | 1 to 3.5 fl oz/gal |
Maximum amount per application: 84 fl oz/A. Maximum annual dose should not exceed 246 fl oz/A.
Major Weeds Controlled
A non-selective herbicide providing top-kill of most weeds. Most effective on seedling broadleaf weeds; including many glyphosate-resistant species including horseweed, pigweeds, ragweed and lambsquarters. Also effective on several glyphosate-tolerant species such as cutleaf eveningprimrose and white clover.
Major Weeds Not Controlled
Most rhizomatous perennials and woody weeds will re-sprout following treatment. Top-kill only on established grass weeds or tall broadleaf weeds. Ineffective on bittercress.
For Best Results
Apply to actively growing weeds. Application rates vary with weed species and weed growth stage. Limited translocation from treated leaves to other parts of the plant. The addition of a foam-reduction agent is recommended. Addition of 0.25% non-ionic surfactant or 1% v/v methylated seed oil (MSO) can improve weed control.
Cautions and Precautions
Unsatisfactory control may result if weeds are stressed by drought or cold temperatures or if the weed population is dense. When applied near desirable vegetation, the herbicide must be applied as a directed spray because it is nonselective. A shielded sprayer may be necessary in some situations. Thorough coverage of target weeds is necessary. In our research, Finale controlled weeds better when applied in higher spray volume (90 GPA) compared to 30 GPA. Bark damage has been reported to thin-barked trees when high-dose treatments contacted the basal stems. To avoid this damage avoid spray contact to green stems, and in established plantings use a calibrated sprayer to prevent over-dosing.
Residual Activity
No residual activity and no root uptake in mineral soils. However, in pure sands or soilless growing media, root uptake can occur. Do not use in container nursery stock (including pot in pot systems).
Volatility and Leaching Potential
Nonvolatile. Low leaching potential in natural soils. Strongly adsorbed to soil colloids. Rapidly broken down by microorganisms.
Symptoms and Mode of Action
Visual effects, chlorosis followed by foliar necrosis, is visible in two to four days. The compound inhibits glutamine synthetase, causing ammonium ions to build up within the leaf tissues, leading to tissue destruction and limiting photosynthesis. Limited translocation. Mode of action group 10.
