Neonectria fungi have fruiting bodies which release spores for reproduction. These fruiting bodies, called perithecia, can be spotted on infected trees in the fall.
The bark of a beech tree is covered in fruiting bodies of Neonectria fungi, which appear small, round, and bright red.
