Major Weeds Controlled
Broadleaf weeds such as spotted spurge, chickweed, eclipta, bittercress, morningglory (seedling), Florida pusley, and black medic, and sedges including yellow nutsedge, globe sedge, and kyllinga. Purple nutsedge is suppressed and requires multiple applications for complete control.
Major Weeds Not Controlled
Grassy weeds. Goosegrass may be suppressed depending upon growth stage. Limited residual control of spurge, bittercress,
For Best Results
Apply to young, actively growing weeds soon after they emerge. Thorough spray coverage is essential for optimal results. May be tank mixed following label directions with other preemergence and postemergence herbicides. Use of surfactants is not recommended. Residual weed control will be improved if applied to soil free of clods and debris such as leaves or mulch.
Cautions and Precautions
Do not apply over-the-top of ornamentals. Direct contact of sulfentrazone with actively growing foliage or buds can cause injury. Delay applications until after newly planted ornamentals have formed roots and soil has settled. Do not apply in areas where ornamental bulbs or non-woody perennials are present. Do not apply more than 12 oz per acre per year. Do not apply to golf course putting greens or tees.
Residual Activity
Has residual activity and can be applied preemergence for control of certain broadleaf weeds and sedges. Control of up to 60 days has been reported.
Volatility and Leaching Potential
Loss from volatility is minimal. Sulfentrazone is moderately mobile in soil.
Symptoms and Mode of Action
Absorbed by the roots and shoots of treated plants. Susceptible plants turn necrotic and die shortly after exposure to light following soil applications. Foliar applications cause rapid desiccation and necrosis of treated plant tissues. Symptoms are noticeable within days. Ornamentals treated with sulfentrazone may exhibit necrosis on contacted tissues or general stunting and/or discoloration. Mode of action: Inhibition of protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO); HRAC Group E, WSSA 14. See Protoporphyrinogen Oxidase (PPO) Inhibitors factsheet.
