Introduction
Trade Name: StriCore | Common Name: pethoxamid | Formulation: 4 EC |
Uses
Preemergence weed control in field grown nursery crops and landscape plantings. Directed applications avoiding contact with tender foliage are recommended. Also labeled for some uses in residential and commercial turfgrasses and rights of ways. Intended for use by professional applicators (not for consumer use).

Major Weeds Controlled
Many annual weeds including annual sedges, annual grasses, galinsoga, and oxalis (from seeds).
Suppression of yellow nutsedge. Late-germinating summer annual grasses, such as barnyardgrass and fall panicum, will require a higher dose or a second application. See label for a full list of weeds controlled and suppressed.
Major Weeds Not Controlled
Purple nutsedge, bittercress, ragweed, lambsquarters, horseweed, morningglory, and late-germinating summer annuals.
For Best Results
Apply to weed-free soil. Irrigation or rainfall soon after applications is needed for optimum weed control. On an irrigated site, pigweed was controlled >80%, but on a non-irrigated site with high organic matter pigweed control was only 35%. Do not apply in greenhouses or other enclosed structures. Do not use in container-grown nursery crops. Avoid applications over the top of broadleaf ornamental plants in the spring when young, tender growth is present. Directed applications should be used to avoid injury to tender foliage. Best tank mixed with compatible herbicides to expand spectrum of broadleaf weeds control.
Cautions and Precautions
Do not apply in areas where bulbs or herbaceous ornamentals are planted. Do not apply directly to the foliage of ornamental plants. Do not use on food-producing trees, vines or other plants. Do not exceed 48 fl oz (1.5 lb ai) per acre per year. Do not apply directly to, or allow runoff to enter bodies of water. See label for specific setbacks and restrictions around wells or streams.
Residual Activity
Eight to twelve weeks of residual control of susceptible weeds should be expected. Residual weed control will be shorter in soils with high organic matter.
Volatility and Leaching Potential
Pethoxamid has low to moderate volatility and may volatilize from wet soils. Pethoxamid has moderate leaching potential but is adsorbed by soil organic matter limiting leaching in most situations. In coarse textured soils with low organic matter, leaching may occur.
Symptoms and Mode of Action
Group 15 mode of action: lipid synthesis inhibition
Uptake is by roots and shoots. Injury symptoms include crinkling of new growth, new leaves remaining “rolled” and not unfurling normally, and general stunting.
