Hail damage
Symptoms
Torn leaves, shot holes in leaves, broken petioles, bruised and damaged fruit, dark discolored areas on outer leaves.
Similar Problems
Some insects and slugs will cause damage to leaves but fruit will not be bruised.
Additional Information
Hail occurs during violent thunderstorms with strong updrafts.
Diagnostic Tips
Damage is usually observed throughout entire field.
Corrective Measures
Sanitation and botrytis control spray may be helpful.
Management
Damage is unavoidable but crop insurance may help cover losses if available.
